“Use your gifts to Praise Him! Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.”
Music ministers are members of the congregation who serve Saint Rose of Lima by preparing and producing the music heard during the liturgy. St. Rose offers many opportunities for anyone who has an interest in ministering through music. Some of the possibilities include singing in the choir or as a cantor, playing the piano or guitar as an accompanist, or playing an instrument, such as clarinet or violin, as part of an ensemble or on occasion as a soloist. We are always looking to add new music ministers, so no matter your background in music, if you feel moved to join us, we welcome you.
What we do:
Each weekend, Saint Rose of Lima offers four Masses in English, a Saturday evening Mass, two Sunday morning Masses, and a Sunday evening Lifeteen Mass. Currently, a cantor with organ accompaniment leads the music for Saturday evening Mass. A guitar ensemble with a violin and bass clarinet accompanies the cantor at the earliest Sunday Mass. The Saint Rose of Lima adult choir with piano or organ accompaniment and a cantor lead the music during the mid-morning Sunday Mass. Our youth choir, live youth band, and youth cantor lead contemporary music at Sunday evening Mass.
If any of the musical groups interest you, please feel free to attend a rehearsal. Rehearsals are held in the choir practice room behind the children’s chapel at the back of the main chapel. There is also an entrance door to the practice room from outside the church near the northeast corner.
Rehearsal days and times:
|For 5:00 pm Saturday Mass:||Saturdays from 4-4:45 pm|
|For 8:30 am Sunday Mass:||Sundays from 7:30-8:15 am|
|For 10:30 am Sunday Mass:||Wednesdays from 7-8:30 pm|
Sundays from 9:45-10:15 am
|For 6:00 pm Sunday Mass:||Sundays from 4:30-5:45 pm|
For those who feel they can’t commit to full-time service in the music ministry, we do have additional needs during the Christmas and Easter seasons. We would love to have you join us during either of those times.
For Christmas, Saint Rose of Lima offers two Christmas Eve Masses in English and one Christmas morning. We typically begin rehearsing seriously for Christmas at the beginning of November. We welcome all who might be interested in joining, especially the choir which does the 11:00 pm Mass, for just those two months.
For Easter, the music ministry is especially busy during Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday. Saint Rose of Lima offers a Holy Thursday Mass, a Good Friday Liturgy, an Easter Vigil Mass and an Easter Sunday Masses. The various music groups provide the music for those Masses with responsibilities changing from year to year. We typically begin rehearsing 8-6 weeks before Easter. Again, if a two-month commitment works better for you, we could use your help during Holy Week.
