SEWING ANGELS
The Sewing Angels is a group of women from Saint Rose of Lima Parish in Layton who meets after the 9:00 am Mass on Monday mornings. They sew and tie blankets, make bibs, burp cloths, receiving blankets, nightgowns, hats, and stuffed animals. These items are then donated to Catholic Community Services (St. Martha’s Baby Project), Ogden Regional Medical Center, and the Christmas Box House in Ogden. In addition, we make lap robes and throw pillows for the George Whalen Center in Ogden, the Veteran’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, and various nursing homes in and around Layton. They also make pillowcases and Smiley Bags for children to pack their belongings into when they need to go to foster homes. When they are not sewing, members also knit and crochet hats, mittens, scarves, and lap robes for homeless individuals and underprivileged children. Many of the members, both men and women do this at their homes. Currently, there are 30 women in the group. They always welcome new members and the ability to sew is not necessary as there is always a way to help out. To supply the group with materials, The Sewing Angels have fundraisers and advertise in the weekly bulletin for donations. The parishioners of Saint Rose of Lima are very generous, giving donations ranging from material to batting and yarn. Monetary donations are also always appreciated. The Sewing Angels have been in operation for over 13 years and will continue sewing until the material runs out. They enjoy getting together for coffee, sewing, and socialization. Using their time and talents, they are making a difference in the lives of others. Please feel free to come join us.
