BECOMING CATHOLIC
ORDER OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION (OCIA)
Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the formal process through which individuals gradually develop their relationship with Jesus Christ and begin to live their faith. This process is designed for individuals who have never been baptized (known as Catechumens) or those who were baptized in another Christian denomination (known as Candidates).
The journey into the Catholic Church is highly personal; conversion and a commitment to a new life takes time. For most individuals, the journey begins as an Inquirer or Seeker where there is time to ask a question and make sure they understand what is being asked of them. It is a time to begin to attend Mass and get to know members of St Rose of Lima.
Then through specific Rites an individual moves towards baptism and entrance into the Catholic Church. There is time to study, pray and learn how to practice Jesus Christ’s teaching in their daily life. The first step is simple: respond to God’s invitation to come to Him and contact the appropriate people. Be assured we, the members of St Rose of Lima, are here to help you on your journey to Jesus Christ and His Church. OCIA meets every Thursday at 6:30 pm.
CHRISTIAN FORMATION FOR CHILDREN & TEENS

Faith Formation classes are offered for grades 1st to 8th grade.
Our faith Formation classes are held on Sunday in two different sessions.
Classes in English are held on Sundays from 10:15 to 11:15 AM.
Classes in Spanish are on Sundays 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
Classes in Spanish are on Sundays 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation
In conjunction with the diocesan guidelines, preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion is a two-year process. Students can register and start their preparation in First grade and their first communion will be celebrated in their second grade during May.
Confirmation
In conjunction with the diocesan guidelines, preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a two-year process. Students will need to have received the Sacraments of First Reconciliation & First Eucharist. Students can register and start their preparation in seventh grade and will be confirmed in eighth grade. Candidates and parents must attend meetings and scheduled retreats as offered during the sacrament preparation process. Candidates must participate in at least 20 hours of Community Service. Candidates must choose an appropriate Sponsor within the Deadline.
